Every Day Justice: Cultivating Intentional Connection (2020)

Since 2018 the Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing has been holding a learning space for researchers and practitioners can exchange resources and knowledge to make research findings more applicable to the social work field. The project culminates in an annual digest filled with content co-created by researchers and practitioners. In the past we’ve also held Facebook lives with article authors that provide continuing education credits to practitioners who login.

In 2020 we incorporated the Clinician’s Corner project into our annual child welfare conference by creating an opportunity for conference participants to contribute to the journal by answering some questions about social justice. These questions were handed out on note cards to every participant which they could submit anonymously in ballot boxes throughout the conference location. Participants also had the option to participate by being interviewed on camera about their commitment and practices related to social justice. We received over 300 cards back. (You can see more about the conference here.) Submissions were incorporated into this custom-designed digest.

For this issue, I created hand-drawn illustrations for each article and section to emphasize the grassroots movement and progress practitioners can make working in the field directly with families. You can view this digest on Medium here or see the printed version below or PDF here.
