Creating Protective Communities Across Texas: The Projects HOPES Evaluation (2015-2019)

The Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing is evaluating one of Texas’ statewide child maltreatment prevention programs called HOPES. As Communications Coordinator for the institute, I worked closely with the evaluation’s Research Coordinator to visualize the evaluation’s data in an accessible way so that it was not only useful to our funder, but the people on the ground doing this work. We developed a framework to evaluate the program’s impact, and made sure each site implementing the program had the data they needed to show the impact of their efforts by featuring site profiles in the report. We continued this approach for the final report in 2019. Throughout this project, the Institute was also contracted to perform a retrospective analysis on the association between receiving prevention services child abuse. I created a 1-pager to summarize the major findings and lead the press release and dissemination efforts. We also did a month-long social media campaign called “The Big 4” to highlight some of our major findings. I also served as a part of the evaluation team and often traveled with the team to many of the program sites across Texas to conduct interviews with HOPES community leaders, staff, and families.
